The
mission of the Office of Housing and Urban Improvement is to assist in the
development and redevelopment of a viable community which provides affordable
housing, economic opportunity, and a safe living environment. This is carried
out through a variety of programs and activities that focus on neighborhood
revitalization, improved community facilities, services and economic
development.
This Office utilizes
grant funds that it receives from federal, state and local government sources to
establish and leverage relationships with other public, private and non-profit
organizations to achieve maximum benefit for all the residents of the City of
Pompano Beach.
The United
States Department of Housing and Urban Development provides annual
grants to the City of Pompano Beach through the Office of Housing and
Urban Improvement for a broad range of activities that preserve and
develop viable urban communities. The program’s principal beneficiaries
are low-income households.

In the midst of the worst economic
recession many of us has ever seen, purchasing a home really is an act
of faith. Faith that our economy will recover. Faith that we will have
a job, enough money to pay a mortgage and sustain a home. Our task is
to rebuild that faith.
The City of Pompano Beach, Office of
Housing and Urban Improvement is applying for $18,611,111 in
Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 (NSP2) funds to arrest the decline
in our neighborhoods, and then to stabilize these neighborhoods and
position them for a sustainable role in a revitalized Pompano Beach
community. This funding will provide for five strategies that this city
believes will help stabilize neighborhoods whose viability has been and
continues to be compromised by negative economic conditions. These
strategies include; financing mechanism, acquisition, rehabilitation,
management and disposition, demolition, land banking and redevelopment
of a minimum of 669 foreclosed, abandoned or vacant properties as a
means to meet with NSP2 objectives. |
